Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Nazif, toured the project for a National Museum of Civilization in El-Fostat, as was accompanied by the Minister of Culture; Farouk Hosni, Minister of Housing; Eng. Ahmed El-Maghraby, Minister of Tourism; Zoheir Garana, Minister of Local Development; Mohamed Abdel Salam El-Mahgoub, Cairo Governor; Dr. Abdel Azim Wazir.
Mr. Farouk said that the project costs EGP 500 million, adding that the first and second phases were completed and the third and last phase will take 15 months.
Dr. Nazif confirmed that such massive project will play a great role not only in the tourism field but in the cultural and educational movement as well. The Museum will be an excellent example showing Egypt's history and its development over history, Dr. Nazif said. He noted that the Egyptian civilization can not be compared to other civilizations as it includes the Pharaonic, Romanian, Greek and Islamic civilizations.
Establishment of such museum is part of President Hosni Mubarak election programme, Dr. Nazif said, and it considers an extension to a new thought which aims at establishing more museums. Dr. Nazif stated that the Egyptian history needs 1000 museums but the most important thing is achieving integration and harmony among exhibits.
Dr. Nazif reviewed the development plan of El-Fostat City which enjoys several development factors including the existence of various Islamic and Coptic monuments, crafts and cultural compound.
Dr. Nazif described El-Fostat City as a jewel in Cairo. It locates in 14000 acres and can be used for the establishment of a central international garden, green areas and housing, cultural and crafts compounds. In this case the polluting industries shall be moved outside the city, squatters have to development and the roads' corridors shall be linked.
