Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Nazif, witnessed the signing of two financial and technical cooperation agreements between Egypt and Germany. The agreements were signed by the Minister of International Cooperation Mrs. Fazya Abul Naga and the German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Mr. Dirk Niebel. The ceremony was attended by the German Ambassador to Egypt Mr. Michael Bock and the Egyptian Ministers of Electricity & Energy and Water Resources & Irrigation.
The financial cooperation agreement provides € 79 million for financing the integrated management programme to develop irrigation and improve Aswan's old dam, along with the primary education programme. The technical cooperation agreement provides € 23.8 million for financing the Regional Centre for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), the Supreme Egyptian-German Joint Committee for Renewable Energies, Energy Efficiency and Environment Protection, the PPP development programme in urban regions, the private sector development programme, water resources management reform programme, water and waste water management project, and women rights support project.
The Prime Minister praised development witnessed in the Egyptian-German bilateral relations in various economic and political fields, as Germany is considered the first partner to Egypt, among European countries, in terms of the volume of developmental aid provided over the last 25 years to finance the economic, social, and infrastructure development projects.
It is worth noting that bilateral cooperation projects between Egypt and Germany include; the wind energy project in Al-Za'frana and Khaleej Al-Zeit, High dam generators improvement project in Aswan, water and waste water projects in Alexandria, Kafr Al-Sheikh and Qena governorates, water and waste water services improvement project in Al-Sharkia, Al-Gharbia, Al-Behira, and Damietta governorates, establishment of new barrages in Naga' Hamadi and Assuit, urban regions development project in Cairo and Giza, as well as the public operation programme and SMEs in the Social Fund for Development.
